When Will Virginia’s Attorney General Sue Drug Companies for Illegal Marketing That Cost Medicaid and the State Millions?

Arkansas has joined the many states suing over the illegal marketing of Seroquel and the many states suing over illegal off-label marketing of Zyprexa that has cost states’ Medicaid programs millions of dollars per year, money that Virginia’s Medicaid program sorely needs.  Yet there is still no action from our own Attorney General to protect the interests of taxpayers and the needs of Medicaid recipients.  I guess he is too busy scapegoating folks with mental illness in our state to actually help our state coffers and taxpayers and the elderly and children and people with disabilities who earn 80% or less of the Federal Poverty rate who need services and need Virginia to stop being one of the few, if not the only, state that puts a cap on lifetime Medicaid use.  The cap prevents folks who had transplants as children with no earning power who have not landed a job with great health benefits from getting a second transplant as adults and leaves the very old very stuck if they live too long and reach the cap while in assisted living or a nursing home.  But hey, why worry about sick kids and our oldest citizens?  Why show compassion or even a sense of decency towards people who have no alternatives?  No, it’s more important to be a “business friendly” state than a people friendly state.  Yeah, that’s the ticket.
