A Love Song to Klonopin

Klonopin is the only psychotropic I use/take.  I have had bad reactions to just about everything in the psychoactive formulary and the list of drugs I can’t take including non-psychotropics that affect serotonin takes about 10 minutes to recite and gives anesthesiologists that deer in the headlights look of why me, why now, why didn’t someone else get assigned to this patient?:).  I happen to love my klonopin though.  I have PTSD and I also have kidney failure related insomnia and transplant list waiting related anxiety (as evidenced most recently by checking cell phone functionality several times daily at least).  At the end of the day there sits my trusty klonopin to see me through the night and given my 11% kidney function and slow clearance rate, the next day as well even at a not high dose.  Best of all, my premium part D plan which I pay for so my kidney drugs are covered covers benzos even though the feds don’t require it and they cover them through the doughnut hole since they are all generic.  The best $2  I spend each month.

Why post this?  Because I often get feedback that makes me think folks think I am anti-psychiatry and anti-drugs.  I am actually pro-choice on the use of psychotropics as long as folks have truly informed consent and as long as the drug is safe enough to be on the market at all.  Benzos have been around long enough that all the possible side effects are well known, no surprises forthcoming and I am lucky enough not to have any of them.

And you all thought I could never say anything loving :) .  ROFL>

It’s not loving to care about your fellow citizens? Pft. Says who?

We take Klonopin, too. It’s still effective after all these years. But it does seem to be messing with my memory (though who can tell what that’s about?) and I don’t like that.

    There’s a price for everything, I suppose.

I can’t live without morning caffeine. Use whatever gets you through the day.

Great to hear from you! My sentiments exactly, as long as it’s legal and kidney friendly :) .

    Love,

I’m totally okay with whatever drugs people choose, as long as they grant the point that the drug - I - choose for my mood-issues and stiff joints should be available to me LEGALLY. I refer to cannabis. If you don’t want to allow ME the freedom to use my VERY SAFE cannabis, then I don’t know why I should help pay for your stuff, or approve of it!!!! (not YOU personally, Alison, refer to local conservatives, dosing their kids with Ritalin, popping antidepressants, and then putting down pot-smokers!)

And that’s how I feel about it! :D
